Test Structure
The ELTiS 2.0 online test is a multiple-choice test, which consists of a listening and a reading part. While there is no official time limit, for most students the listening section lasts approximately 35 minutes, while the reading section takes about 45 minutes.
Listening
The Listening section evaluates how well you comprehend spoken English in a school environment. You’ll hear recordings and answer questions based on what you hear. Short passages at the start of the test are repeated twice, while others are only played once. You can respond to questions while listening or afterwards. Questions in this section focus on identifying main ideas, details, and implied meanings.
To succeed in the Listening section, focus on understanding the overall message of the speakers. Practice by watching English-language videos, TV shows, or movies without subtitles, or by listening to conversations and summarizing their key points. It can also help to take notes, but remember that your main goal is understanding, not writing down every word.
Reading
The Reading section assesses your ability to understand written English in an academic context. You’ll complete sentences to demonstrate your knowledge of academic vocabulary and grammar. Later in the test, you’ll read passages from various subjects (like Science or History) and answer questions about main ideas, details, implied meanings, and vocabulary in context.
To do well, practice reading informational texts from books, magazines, or online sources. Focus on understanding the author’s main points and re-read sections if they don’t make sense. Use strategies like breaking down complex words or analyzing the surrounding text to determine their meaning. While preparing, it’s helpful to learn academic vocabulary, as dictionaries won’t be allowed during the test.
